Clinical groups: Expressive Arts & Dance/movement Therapy for recovery, trauma & mental health in clinical settings.
Shared creative experiences build empathy and community, which expand possibilities for connection, action and transformation.
Expressive Arts Therapy Groups
This group uses movement, creativity, visual art, metaphor, and music as a way of processing themes related to mental health and recovery. Combined with traditional talk therapy, the arts (music, movement, visual art, poetry) are incorporated into sessions to as a means to externalize that which we cannot put fully into words, explore issues, reveal themes and help create new healthy patterns in your life. Insight is gained through exploring the movement and art as symbolic metaphor.
These practices help clients tap into ‘flow’ and the present moment and getting “out of your head”, decreasing the sensation of anxiety, depression, and cravings.
No previous movement or art experience needed. This is not about being an artist, but enjoying the process of being in creative flow.
Dance/Movement Therapy Groups
The psychotherapeutic use of movement is used to promote emotional, social, cognitive, and physical integration of the individual, for the purpose of improving health and well-being.
Movement improvisation allows the client to experiment with new ways of being. Movement is metaphor and we see the correlation between the way we use our bodies and move in space and in relationship with others, and the way we move through and feel in life.
- We explore how to consciously breathe, relax, and focus mind.
- Develop awareness of our inner world
- Learn how to self regulate and control our emotional state
- Liberate our body from the linear, rigid habits of daily life in the modern world.
- Slow down & become present with ourselves.
- Release tension or rigidity, and begin to
- Shift the focus from how it looks to how it feels.Heightening awareness, on sensations of feelings & thoughts
Through movement we inquire into and remember the real you. Through breath, sweat, and expression, you gain a palpable experience of yourself as pure powerful energy. We dance without mirrors to release judgement of ourselves and others. Dance Therapy is not about learning steps, it’s about revealing and re-discovering yourself, and becoming more self aware.
